The Pierre Cardin Fashion Museum

The famous fashion designer, Pierre Cardin, who has worked in haute couture for half a century, has just realised his dream - to create a museum in his name, in order "to leave a trace" of his work. This unusual venue, created in a magnificently refurbished disused former garage, is in Saint-Ouen (a suburb of Paris) and opened in November 2006. The most emblematic creations of his career are enthroned in a huge, spotless white space: not only clothes, but furniture and accessories too. From cowl-neck suit to ultra-futurist dress, the selection exhibited retraces the artistic periods of this great designer and art lover, who also founded a cultural venue that bears his name in Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Paris.

The visit can also include stops at select dépôt-vente stores - stockists of vintage high-fashion clothing from the famous designer.

In the Footsteps of Yves Saint Laurent - The Pierre Bergé - YSL Foundation

The foundation was created to prolong the history of the House of Yves Saint Laurent, whose Haute Couture operations ceased on 31 October 2002.

The Pierre Bergé - Yves Saint Laurent foundation has set itself three primary goals:

To conserve the 5,000 Haute Couture garments and the 15,000 accessories, sketches and assorted objects that bear witness to 40 years of Yves Saint Laurent's creativity.

To organize exhibitions: fashion, paintings, photographs, drawings.

To support cultural and educational projects.

With his business partner, Pierre Bergé, iconic fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent reopened his former atelier in 2004 - this time as a gallery and archive of his work. Temporary exhibits, some fashion-related, rotate roughly every six months. The first, a show of Saint Laurent's art-inspired clothing, including his Mondrian dress, was a knockout.

The Fondation Pierre Bergé continues to show Saint Laurent's works of art and holds regular exhibitions of contemporary artists and designers.

The visit can also include stops at select dépôt-vente stores - stockists of vintage high-fashion clothing from the legendary designer.

Matisse and Picasso in Antibes and Nice

The dazzling light and gorgeous vegetation of the French Riviera drew Matisse, Bonnard and Picasso to create some of their most unforgettable works of art. On this tour you will have a chance to visit the Chapelle du Rosaire in Vence—Matisse’s religious testament, known for its unique stained glass windows inspired by his famous cutouts. You will then have a chance to visit the nearby Fondation Maeght, known for its whimsical Miro and Calder sculptures and its excellent exhibitions of Modernist and contemporary art. Later in the afternoon, you will stop at the newly expanded Picasso Museum overlooking the port of Antibes—where you will find the Catalan master’s ceramics and such masterpieces as “La Joie de Vivre.”

If you are staying in Nice, you will have chance to visit some of Matisse’s favourite painting sites including the market on the Cours Saleya, the old Baroque Lascaris Palace, as well as the newly renovated Musée Matisse, located in a stunning red Genoese villa. This museum; the only one of its kind on the Riviera, allows the visitor to understand the artist’s creative process, and the different stages of his work, ranging from paintings to sculpture to print-making and graphic design.
