'Paris In A Basket' Gourmet Market Tours
With our expert guide, we invite you to join us on a food shopping and tasting expedition near the old Halles District, which Emile Zola called "the belly of Paris." Here you can get the fixings of a picnic lunch at one of the finest markets in Paris, which is the everyday haunt of the city's top chefs.
We'll tell you how to choose cheese for a casual lunch as well as for dinner parties, where to get excellent foie gras and caviar at unbeatable prices, what kinds of wines to buy to take home and how to store them, as well as discover the bakery of the Queens of France, known for its rhum babas and "well of love" desserts. You will also visit one of the city's finest dry grocers, where you can purchase baking chocolate, shelled almonds, dried mushrooms and pine nuts, at prices that you won't believe until you see them. And if you love stocking up on the latest cookware, we will take you to where the chefs buy their Flexipans and their chocolate molds, as well as the latest Le Creuset cookware.
For those who want to explore the Left Bank, we also offer a mouthwatering tour of the Rue Mouffetard on the Left Bank - the oldest open air market street in Paris. Here you will be able to sample cheeses, taste the authentic "Gana" baguette, and have the tastiest brioche in all of Paris -- at least according to Patricia Wells.
You will love the overflow of scents, colors and textures at the different fruit and vegetable stalls, and will admire the ancient frescoes on the 16th and 17th century facades. Best of all, you will be able to end your visit with a taste of one of the finest ice creams in Paris, whose name we refuse to give away.
